Jeff Bartlett - The Times-Mail BEDFORD — Grant Dalton was going to be a leader for the 2022 Bedford North Lawrence baseball team. He didn`t have a whole lot of choice. So Dalton was going to be the dude with the "C" designation for captain, and he hasn`t shied away from the responsibility. In fact, he has embraced it, and it has been vital to keeping an incredibly-youthful team together through a rollercoaster of a season.

The Stars scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, then survived New Albany’s serious threat in the seventh for a smashing 5-4 triumph on Monday afternoon. Will Adams fanned the final two batters to escape the final threat, and BNL scored the go-ahead run on a bunt while fencing in the Bulldogs.

The Stars, who trailed by 5 runs three different times in the finale, scored twice in the seventh and had the tying run thrown out at the plate as Southridge edged BNL 11-10 in a wild title clash. BNL (8-9) advanced to the final with an 8-3 triumph over Heritage Hills in the semifinal.

The Stars broke the dam holding back its run production, conquering Martinsville 6-1 on Friday afternoon. Kaedyn Bennett’s two two-out RBIs and Jonny Stone’s two home runs highlighted the outburst as BNL (7-8) ended a four-game losing skid and 31-inning scoreless streak with a much-needed victory.

BEDFORD – The name Ryker, of German origin, means “rich” or “powerful ruler.” That was appropriate for Bedford North Lawrence’s performance in the split doubleheader with Franklin and Evansville North on Saturday.

BEDFORD — Bedford North Lawrence outfielder Grant Dalton has a cool thing coming up, which, in youthful slang means it is so cool it`s sick, or in this case literally "SIC." Dalton has inked his full-ride scholarship deal to continue his baseball career at Southeastern Illinois College, a JUCO school in Harrisburg, Il., after he completes his senior season with the Stars this spring.
