Bedford North Lawrence Ace Cutler Chastain Commits to Indiana State Baseball
For Bedford North Lawrence junior pitcher Cutler Chastain, years of work on the mound and in the batter’s box have paid off in a major way.
Chastain has verbally committed to continue his baseball career with the Indiana State Sycamores, giving the Stars’ ace the opportunity to pitch at one of the Midwest’s most respected Division I baseball programs.
The hard-throwing right-hander emerged as Bedford North Lawrence’s top arm during the 2025 season, leading the Stars in innings pitched and strikeouts while consistently taking the ball in the team’s biggest games. Chastain also contributed offensively, batting .271 and proving to be a reliable two-way player throughout the season.
His performance earned him Hoosier Hills Conference Honorable Mention recognition in 2025, another milestone in what has become a breakout junior campaign.
Chastain’s development has continued outside of the high school season as well. During the summer, he competes with the Midwest Canes 17U squad, one of the premier travel baseball programs in the region. Facing high-level competition throughout the summer circuit has helped sharpen his command, mound presence, and ability to attack hitters in pressure situations.
The commitment to Indiana State represents a significant step for both Chastain and the Bedford North Lawrence baseball program. The Sycamores have built a strong reputation nationally in recent years, consistently competing near the top of the Missouri Valley Conference while producing professional talent and NCAA Tournament teams. Indiana State’s baseball tradition includes nine NCAA Tournament appearances, a College World Series trip in 1986, and a long list of professional players, including former major leaguer Sean Manaea.
Indiana State has also become known for developing pitchers and playing an aggressive, fundamentally sound brand of baseball under its coaching staff. The program’s success and reputation made the Sycamores a natural fit for a competitor like Chastain, whose toughness and work ethic have become defining traits at Bedford North Lawrence.
On social media, Chastain has frequently showcased his dedication to training, travel baseball, and team-first mentality. His competitive edge and steady progression have drawn attention from college programs throughout the region, but Indiana State ultimately secured the commitment from one of southern Indiana’s rising arms.
For Bedford North Lawrence, Chastain’s commitment is another example of the caliber of talent being developed within the Stars baseball program. As he prepares for his senior season, expectations will be high for the BNL ace to continue leading the rotation while helping the Stars compete for postseason success.
With another high school season still ahead of him and summer baseball continuing with the Midwest Canes, Chastain’s future appears bright. Now officially committed to the Sycamores, the Bedford North Lawrence standout has positioned himself for the next chapter of his baseball journey — one that will continue at the Division I level in Terre Haute.
